Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about Ingresso access control and visitor management, for every property type and every entrance.

About Ingresso

What does Ingresso do?

Ingresso provides access control and visitor management for gated communities, condominiums, commercial, industrial and government properties. We secure every door and gate with the IG-4020K-IPW access controller, and add the Visitor Kiosk, the Attendant Station, Remote Attendant, the Manager Portal and the Resident Portal.

What types of properties do you work with?

Gated communities, condominiums, commercial buildings, industrial sites and government facilities. Each one gets the same system, set up for how that property works.

Do you secure doors as well as gates?

Yes. We secure every door or gate in a facility: main gates, clubhouses, lobbies, garages, amenity doors, truck gates and docks.

What access controller do you use?

The Ingresso IG-4020K-IPW, an IP-based controller for one or two doors. It supports 40,000 users in one-door mode, or 20,000 users per door in two-door mode, with alarms on door open and alarm relays for other detection systems. New controllers are deployed from the Technician Area of the Manager Portal.

Where do you provide service?

Serving North America, Puerto Rico, South America and the Caribbean.

Visitors and Guests

How do visitors get in when no one is at the entrance?

At the Visitor Kiosk, an expected visitor scans the QR pass they were sent or a state-issued ID. Anyone else looks up the person they are visiting by name and calls them, or taps Talk to an Attendant.

How do residents and tenants send guest passes?

From the Resident Portal. They add the guest with start and expiration dates, or as a one-time visitor, then send a QR pass by email or text.

What if the person being visited is not at a computer?

The kiosk rings their phone instead, then an alternate number. They press # to allow entry.

Can one attendant cover more than one entrance?

Yes. With Remote Attendant, kiosk calls ring the next available attendant in a web browser, like a PBX. One attendant can cover every kiosk from any office, and callers see their place in line.

What happens when someone on the Banned List tries to check in?

At the Visitor Kiosk they are refused automatically; the screen asks them to see the gatehouse and never says why. At the Attendant Station the attendant sees a DO NOT ADMIT warning with the photo and the reason. Admitting them anyway takes a reason, and management is told.

Is every entry recorded?

Yes. Every arrival is logged with who approved it, when, and photos of the visitor and vehicle. It feeds the visitor log in the Manager Portal and the monthly board report.

Is there a mobile app?

The Ingresso mobile app lets residents and tenants send guest passes, answer calls from the Visitor Kiosk and get an alert when their guest arrives.

Security and Privacy

Why are the kiosk and check-in station appliances instead of PCs?

A PC at the gate is a full computer, with everything a computer can catch. The Visitor Kiosk and the Attendant Station are sealed devices: no desktop, no web browser, no email, nothing to install, and the only program on each one is its own.

Do I need to open ports or change my firewall?

The Visitor Kiosk and the Attendant Station need no port forwarding. They only connect outbound over an encrypted connection, so the site needs outbound TCP 443; allowing outbound UDP gives the best call quality. Each IG-4020K-IPW access controller needs one inbound control port, chosen by the installer and forwarded to it; its events go out to Ingresso.

How is personal information protected?

ID numbers are never stored in readable form, phone numbers never leave our servers, and every property's data is kept apart. All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS.

How are updates handled?

Only Ingresso can update the devices. Every update is sealed and signed, installs overnight or when your technician starts it from the Manager Portal, and puts the previous version back if anything looks wrong.

Can a technician service a kiosk or station without a site visit?

Yes. From the Manager Portal a technician changes settings, finds and tests cameras, checks the printer, installs updates and restarts the device. Remote support starts only when the property asks for it, at the device or from the portal, and the property can end it at any time.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Your gates and doors keep working. The IG-4020K-IPW controllers keep every card, credential and schedule on board, so residents, tenants and staff get in as usual. The Visitor Kiosk, Remote Attendant calls and the portals need the internet, and catch up automatically when it returns.
